Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself

Feel the fear… and do it anyway.

Feel the fear… and do it anyway.

Some of the more popular fears of body change:

  • I’m really nervous.
  • I’m worried that this program won’t work.
  • I think I’m too broken to fix.

Every fear is like an onion.

Dig a little deeper and you get some more layers:

  • Superficial: What if I can’t do the lessons?
  • Moderately deep: What if I screw up?

And the deepest layers: What if I’m truly a failure?

  • Am I valuable? (Yes.)
  • Am I worthy? (Yes.)
  • Am I OK? (Definitely yes.)
  • Am I the only one who thinks/feels this? (Guaranteed no.)
  • Am I alone? (No way.)
  • What if I’m not good enough? (You’re good enough right now, and don’t you ever forget it.)

Fears like those are emotions that feel painful, without being a real threat of harm.

Fears threaten perceptions:

  • sense of self
  • sense of control
  • sense of safety
  • sense of understanding of the world, and how we think it “should” work

Often, fears are a result of a basic and vague feeling of uncertainty. Like, of venturing into new territory, and being uncertain how to deal with it.

Those are the types of fears that can control most of our lives.

With awareness and practice, today can be the day that you can start to shift those fears, embrace uncertainty and change.
